Own A Virtual Football Team With NFL Fantasy Leagues

Are you an armchair quarterback? Have you ever thought you could do better than the coach of your favorite NFL team? Do you yell at the TV during NFL games? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then the NFL fantasy league is for you.

NFL fantasy football allows you to experience the thrill of coaching your very own virtual NFL team. Your virtual team competes against other NFL fantasy teams. Just as in the regular NFL season, the NFL fantasy teams eventually reach the playoffs to determine an overall champion.

In 1962, a limited partner of an NFL team originated the idea of NFL fantasy football. The idea caught on quickly, and has become widespread due to the internet. It has become so popular that it has its own trade associations. The NFL fantasy football trade associations include The Fantasy Sports Association and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. Some sources estimated the financial impact of fantasy sports at billions of dollars. NFL fantasy football has surpassed fantasy baseball in popularity in the U.S.

There are two types of NFL fantasy leagues. The first is called salary cap football. The salary cap option requires the fantasy participants to flesh out their team with players while sticking to a given salary budget. The full fantasy option requires fantasy participants to select players from a draft at the beginning of the fantasy season. Both options use leagues with about 8 to 12 teams each.

NFL fantasy games are scored based on the actions of real NFL players. Points are assigned to fantasy teams based on how the corresponding players in the NFL perform in real games. For example, a virtual quarterback might earn 1 fantasy football point for passing 25 or 50 yards (whichever is stated in the NFL fantasy rules). Six points might be earned for every rushing touchdown or 4 points for a passing touchdown.

Points may also be removed based on unfavorable play. Two points might be deducted for every interception, and one point might be deducted for each fumble. Some NFL fantasy leagues also deduct a point for missed extra point attempts. Regardless of the scoring system, the scoring rules will be available to all players at the beginning of the NFL fantasy season.

NFL fantasy rules vary between leagues. Some leagues require a player to totally rebuild the team at the beginning of each fantasy season. Others allow a player to retain a few team members from the previous season. Still other NFL fantasy leagues allow the participant to keep almost the entire team together. The last option is known as a dynasty league.

You can play NFL fantasy football from the NFL website, or from similar websites. Search the web for NFL fantasy football and you should find many sites at which you can participate. Be sure to read and understand all rules before beginning. If you lose your NFL fantasy game, the only person you can yell at is yourself.
